Datacentre licensing and OS vs Host

$

Hi,

Can someone pse clarify some confusion i have with MS Datacentre licensing in VMware.

We have MS Datacentre licensing covering our ESX hosts and I’m creating a Server 2019 VM gold image/template and wondering what version of the OS I can install in the template. Can i select “Datacenter” in the OS or is it “Standard”.

So my question in short … is the Datacentre licensing for the ESX hosts the same as “Datacenter” for/within the OS?

Thanks

Help Hyper-V NIC missing!!

Hi

We have a Server 2016 Host running Hyper-V. The host server has all of its available updates from MS Update and its running Hyper-V Manager Version 10.0.014393.0, The Host is a HP Proliant (ML350 I believe) and it has a HPE Ethernet 1Gb-4 Port 331i adapter.

Within Hyper V we have 2 VM's - One is a Server 2012 running fine and shows its NIC card as Hyper V Virtual NIC - Running at 1Gbps so all good. however the 2nd VM which is a Small Business Server 2011 (fully updated) is now showing its Hyper-V NIC with a ! mark in device manager stating "The Device Cannot Start (Code 10) "

I have tried to find the answer but cannot get a solution, Lots of people say to choose ACTION then INTEGRATED SERVICES from the Hyper-V menu when selecting connect but when I select Action that option is not available.

I have checked and the Ethernet driver for the host (Server 2016) NIC is the latest version.

I have rebooted the VM into safe mode / normal mode etc but nothing works.

I have enabled a legacy NIC for now but this only runs at 100Mbps and given this server is managing Exchange 2010 for 30 client PC's its causing a problem - Outlook clients are freezing due to the NIC 100Mbps bottle neck.

Please help!

Remotely Accessing DC Event Logs From Powershell

Hi

I am stuck and I need help on what to do. I am an IT administrator for a leasing company and I am trying to access my DC event logs remotely using powershell.

Each time I try and get an event log from the DC using powershell, i always get this error message below.

11/11/2019 04:38:07          36888 Error A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The...

11/11/2019 04:38:07          36874 Error An TLS 1.2 connection request was received from a remote client application, but none of the cipher suites support...

Now I have searched this up it pretty much says I have to turn on Cipher Suite in order to get this working, and I have checked whether this service is running on the DC and it appears that it isn't.

Now i don't want to change anything on the DC because its a live environment that people work on. Is there another way around this?

Increased protection from Ransomware by using DNS firewall

I support a small medical office for a relative. We're seeing increased instances of Ransomware in other offices and I'm considering taking increased action to further prevent us from becoming a target.
I'm considering going the route of something like Cisco's OpenDNS or Sonicwall ATP (which can be added to our existing firewall) or ThreatSTOP etc..
What are you thoughts on this? I wanted to evaluate OpenDNS but could never get a straight answer from the VAR in regards to pricing so never got to that point...
As I understand I would redirect my DNS IP on my firewall to one of these services, links etc. would then be "inspected" by these DNS firewalls prior to transmitting... Is this correct? Would you recommend this from a security and price standpoint?

FWIW, I am using a 3-2-1 backup solution and not concerned there, just trying to be proactive as I see more and more ransomware victims (ie: percsoft etc.)

Appreciate your input.

Thank you!

Hello,

I'm facing an error with HYPER-V Replica.

I have 2 clusters Primary and DRS. All configurations are made and replica brokers are configured on both clusters! But when I need to start a machine replication from Primary cluster to DRS I get error like screenshot.

If I want to replicate from DRS to Primary works OK !

Removing Hyper V Checkpoints

I am trying to extend the disk but it mentions that "Edit is not available because checkpoints exists for this virtual machine". However I saw there is checkpoints but it is not able to be deleted. How can I proceed from it. The image as attached

No checkpoint but link of avhdx disks and edit not available in hyper-v settings

So how do I edit the settings for this VM?

There is no checkpoint, in GUI or hidden "backup" ones in powershell.

The VM has a list of 7-8 avhdx disks. One for every Veeam backup run.

So veeam + MS Hyper-v cluster not always running fine...

Trouble with RemoteFX and DDA

Hello! I have a Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V cluster I recently added Quadro K620s to to gain DirectX in my VMs (specifically an Windows 10 Edu VM). I've run into an issue. I have the VM fully patched and the 3D graphics adapter installed but my VM isn't working right. When I first boot it up with the 3D adapter, I can't RDP to it. I can login with the console and I can see in Device Manager that the RemoteFX device is there and functioning but I can't get RDP to work. Now if I reboot the virtual machine again. then I can RDP to it but the RemoteFX device goes Code 43 in Device Manager. I've been looking through forums from all the way back in 2014 but they all say it should just work and don't really come to a solution so I'm posting here. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

HyperV causes microsoft teams to crash

Hello everyone

Microsoft Teams not working as soon as Hyper-V network adapter is enabled. This is affecting my day to day work. Microsoft teams fails to connect to network. When i disable Hyper-V network adapter

From the debug logs I can see the following error in Microsoft Teams :
Thu Nov 14 2019 14:48:29 GMT+0000 (GMT Standard Time) <15412> -- event -- name: desktop_navigation_provisional_load_failed, errorCode: -101, errorUrl: https://teams.microsoft.com, message: ERR_CONNECTION_RESET, eventpdclevel: 3,
Thu Nov 14 2019 14:48:29 GMT+0000 (GMT Standard Time) <15412> -- error -- Page failed to load with error code -101: ERR_CONNECTION_RESET: https://teams.microsoft.com

Additionally , i tried working with VirtualBox to see if the problem still occurs when using that instead of HyperV , and it does solve the problem so that means there is some sort of issue with HyperV and Teams.

what could be the solution for this?

Thanks!

Failover Clustering CSVs - Hyper-V

$

Hi all,

Need some help,

We have a 6 Nodes Cluster (S2D), we have 6 CSVs (5TB) all assigned to a node each. Example below

Node1 = CSV1

Node2 = CSV2

Node3 = CSV3

Node4 - CSV4

Node5 = CSV5

Node6 = CSV6

We use the CSVs for HyperV storage, each part of the VM will be stored on a single CSV eg. Vhdx, XML etc.

within our setup we have mini RDS farms, 1 x BrokerServer, 1 x SQL Server and 2 x RDS Hosts and a DC sat servicing them all. The Broker holds the User Profile Disks and shared folders, SQL obviously holds database and Hosts are TS's.

Another server which services multiple RDS mini Farms hosts a database file in MDB format, the RDS Hosts have the application installed and connect to the .mdb file.

If the RDS Host Server is not running on the same physical Hyper-V node as the VM hosting the .mdb then we have shocking performance, a task that should take a 1 min is actually taking 20 min.

I don't think this is specific to this applicaition and believe that its affecting our whole environment, I think a major impact is that our Broker (User Profile Disks Share) could be on a different Node to the RDS Host which will also cause issues. We are looking at ensuring all the mini farms run from the same server Node/CSV but with Shared servers this isn't going to work.

All Nodes are connected via a 25GB network backbone and copying files Node to Node is very fast.

Feel free to quiz me on setup

Shared disk problem

Good day. I have a problem with shared disks. I have a File Server Cluster on two virtual machines with the Windows Server 2019 system. Three shared disks are connected to both servers. At some point beyond the files with the VHDS extension, there were also files with the AVHDX extension. I would like to liquidate these differential files and stay only with the original disks but in the Hyper-V manager if I choose the "Edit Disk ..." option and indicate a disk with the AVHDX extension, I do not have the "Merge" option. Just like in powershell, I issue the command Get-VHD gets a message that the file is not a differential disk. So how can I get rid of these files with the AVHDX extension. I would like to add that I would not like to create these discs again because it is no solution. They are also not system disks. They contain only shared data.
Regards.

I setup a lab in Hyper-V, but I keep losing access to my machines frequently, and I have to reboot the whole server to restore Access to my machines.

The Hyper-V role is installed in Windows Server 2019 core.

The Hyper-V contains 6 virtual machines all connected to the same external Vswitch.

In the logs, I found the following errors :

Hi Everyone,

I would like to ask help because i'm working from a company that they are using the old windows server as put in the title. since the phased out has been rolled out last month, i already address considering upgrade our facility to our IT Manager. I'm collecting right now the data needed for upgrading our OS but i can't sure about the product license if its still activated when we migrate to Windows Server 2012 R2. because some of our facilities in different sites already upgrade their systems but it has not yet activated their license because one of my colleague log in to our different server through RDP and we checked that it has not yet activated because it shown in the desktop interface.

Thank you.

Remote Desktop App (Not RMD Connection) and Multiple Monitor

Hi,

I recently started working remotely and need dual monitors. When I log in through the RD App I cannot drag anything to my 2nd display. When I connect through the Remote Desktop Connection I am able to use both monitors but I do not like using the RDC because there seems to be a lot of lag which I wasn't experiencing in the app. When I first got set up it was working fine so I'm sure it must be a setting that needs to be changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

In our environment we have a Windows 10 virtual machine which resides on server 2019 hyper-v server.
We are taking backup of this virtual machine through DPM server which is also installed on a virtual machine.

An error is logging constantly on hyper-v server which is as below..

Failed to map guest I/O buffer for write access with status 0xC0000044. Device name = E:\Hyper-V\Win10-06\Virtual Hard Disks\Win10-06.vhdx

I'm unable to find a satisfying answer for this error.

Is there anyone who can help us regarding this issue?

Thanks.
