Windows Server Backup - Visibility of backup volume

I have a Server 2012 r2 server host that has two guest virtual servers. The host is being backed up by Carbonite while the guests are being backed up within the Guest O/S with Windows Server Backup. The backup destination for the Guest servers is a volume rather than a hidden, dedicated drive. I am trying to transition the guest servers to be backed up at the host with Carbonite, however it appears that Carbonite when backing up the system and data vhdx's is also including the backup volume. There is no way to deselect this drive since it is contained within the VHDX data. This is causing the backup to be much larger than it should since we are essentially backing up the backup. Does anyone know if I were to change the Windows Server Backup drive to a dedicated hidden drive within the guest O/S, if this would essentially deselect it from the data vhdx?
