Windows Essential Feature Install issue on Server 2012 STD R2
Problem migrating Hyper-V Virtual Machine Storage
I'm currently having some issues when trying to migrate the storage of a Hyper-V virtual machine to another host.
Current setup: Three physical hosts in a three-node 2012r2 Hyper-V Failover cluster, using a Dell Equallogic SAN as shared storage. I have seven clustered roles and two non-clustered roles.
Currently I can migrate all of the storage of my clustered roles from the SAN storage to a large data drive on one of the host servers without a problem. The issue arises when I try to migrate the non-clustered roles. Initially I was receiving an error which
stated that the Hyper-V Management service was not ready. Restarting the service fixed this problem, but replaced the error message with this one:
"Migration did not succeed. Could not start mirror operation for the VHD file 'File Location' to 'File Location' General access denied error ('0x80070005')."
**Edit** The VHD and configuration files for the non-clustered roles are stored in the same directory structure on the SAN as the clustered roles, and as far as I know they have the same permissions. **Edit**
Constrained Kerberos delegation has been set up between each host, but I can't think of anything else to do, or any reason why this would happen?
Many thanks,
Chris
VSS Backup errors, "offline" machine
Weird Hyper-V VM's error, old machines?
I have error with my VM's. It's 10028 and it says, that DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer (VM NAME) using any of the cnfigured protocols; request by PID 688
I get this errors every hour, and is this possible, that it's reffering to old (deleted now) VM's? Because I found there VM name which currently don't exist there (the other match with currents, but I re-installed all of them and I have same names).
Best regards
VMware Guests - Server 2012 Intermittently Stop Responding
We have multiple guests running Windows Server 2012 that intermittently stop responding. When not responding I can ping the servers but none of their services respond. If it is a file server I cannot connect to SMB/CIFS shares, port 25 on SMTP server is no longer accessible, and DC is will no longer respond to authentication requests. At the console the cursor is responsive but on a blank gray screen. This leads me to believe that it is a Windows issue and not a VMware issue. Pressing CTL+ALT+DEL gives no response. VMware tools is not responsive so the only way to recover is by resetting the server (hard reboot).
I've reviewed the event logs after the server recovers and the logs cut off around the time that the server goes unresponsive and do not pick up again until after the reboot. No logs before or after indicate a problem other than an unexpected reboot.
The build version is 6.2.9200.
Any ideas why this occurring?
VH Host loses network connctivity
Thank you for viewing my post;
I have an issue concering network connectivty for my VM host that I cant seem to resolve.
Problem: The 2012R2 server with Hyper V installed is not able to browse the network. A yellow triangle appears on the network icon in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop.
Setup: I have a Windows 2012R2 server with 4 VM’s
Scenario and description:
Installed Windows Server 2012R2 and joined to the domain. After joining to the domain I installed the Hyper V role and setup 4 VM’s and added them to the domain. Everything seemed to be working fine (and still is for the 4 vm’s) until the problem mentioned
above appeared for the VM host server.
Settings:
The server has a 4 port 1GB network card. I have created one virtual switch (LAN.local) that I have connected all the VM’s to:
Network and sharing shows > View your basic network information and setup connection >
View Your Active Networks (displayed information)
Network 2 Access type: no network access
Private Network Connectors: vEthernet (1GB-4 Port 331FLR Adapter LAN)
Under Change Network settings:
Embedded Flexible LOM1 Port 1 (limited)
Embedded Flexible LOM1 Port 2 (Red X)
Embedded Flexible LOM1 Port 3 (limited)
Embedded Flexible LOM1 Port 4 (Red X)
vEthernet (1GB 4 – Port 331FLR Adapter – Virtual Switch – LAN)
HYPER – V Switch Manager Settings (1 virtual switche I created and one I don’t know where it came from)
1.
Name: LAN.Local (all 4 VM’s attached to this virtual switch)
Connection Type: External Network
- HP Ethernet 1GB 4-port 331FLR Adapter #3
2. (Not sure where this one came from seems to have been made automatically after adding the Hyper V Role. My VM Host server appears to be using this virtual switch)
Name: Virtual Switch LAN
Connection Type: External Network
- 1 GB 4 Port 331FLR Adapter
- Allow Management Access (checked )
How can I get my VM host server to browse the network? I can’t seem to ‘attach’ it to a virtual switch. Should I be configuring this different?
Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

Hyper-V Server 2012 Crashing
Dear All,

Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you.
If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error:
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (WppRecorder.sys)
How do I troubleshooting it?
Many Thanks,

Which way is faster for backing up a Hyper V VM.
Replaced Physical NIC, now Virtual Network Devices seem to be working but Error on Default Miniport on Host
(Not sure if this was the right Forum -- Running Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012R2, please point me to the right one if not.)
I had to replace a physical NIC in my Windows Server 2012 R2 host machine. After doing that, I didn't see any related events in the Event Viewer, but there were yellow triangles over the 3 Hyper-V network devices in Device Manager on the host machine. And sure enough the VM had no network access. I have created a new Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter in the Hyper-V Manager (Virtual Switch Manager). Network function appears to be restored, but on the Host machine, one of the 3 devices with the yellow triangle is gone (don't recall what it says), the old Network Adapter and the Hyper-V Network Switch Default Miniport are both still there with the yellow triangle. I can't uninstall them (no error, but they don't go away).
Questions:
- What is the Hyper-V Network Switch Default Miniport and do I need it working to have proper function for the VM?
- How do I remove the old Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter that is no longer in use?
- Is it typical when replacing a physical NIC that the virtual network would need to be re-created? If so, surely there's a reference for the right way to do this. Could you provide a link to that so I can see if I missed anything in the rush to get this working?
Thanks,
Colin

* Connected internet to the External port and shared the network with Internal.
Now I am facing this following issues:
1. I have created Hyper V machine to the Internal network and I am unable to connect this with vSwitch adapter and virtual Ethernet adapter.
2. Tried all the ips' that i am using.
3. Please suggest me that which IP have to be provided in the Hyper V Ethernet Adapter and to the Hyper V Network Adapter. Please suggest me how can i connect to my internal network.

Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials as a member server software licensing shutdown issue
Hello I have a 2012 R2 install that I also created a guest then demoted it to member server as the install within the guest VM. After 30 days running I'm now getting shutdown every 3 days and lots of frustration. I thought it was within license to have the host and an installed guest not a domain controller but WORKGROUP --OR-- member server. DO I have to demote this to workgroup? Server 2012 R2 Essentials guest should be able to be a member right?
Thanks

Migration from Intel to AMD
Hello,
I am hoping to get some help on my issue. I'm running Hyper-v on an i3 driven Hyper-v server which I am going to replace by a new AMD Opteron 4228 HE based host. Yes this isn't ideal but there was no other way around. You need to know that this is a home server I am building on my own.
While preparing the new AMD host, I exported my exsiting VMs for testing and successfully started them all on the AMD host without making any compatibility changes. I was confident that the migration in a couple of weeks will go smooth.... I was wrong!
When I exported my VMs again to re-import them to the AMD host, all VMs report the same issue:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
(...)
File: \Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Status: 0xc0000098
I attemped to boot from DVD to run a repair which results in the below error after clicking "repair":
There was a problem
Restart your PC to try again.
Error code: 80070008
Weird that it worked before... What has changed?!

Cannot see or connect to SBS 2003 server
Guys / Gals,
I have a very interesting issue. I have a client that has a SBS 2003 server running on 2008 Hyper-v. The Host server it was sitting on was going to be replaced so I moved to over to 2012 Hyper-V server. Server boots fine and can see all other systems and internet from the SBS server but non of the client PC systems or other servers see the moved SBS server. All services are running and there are no unusual errors being reported. After working on it for better part of a day I decided to move it back to the original 2008 HV server host and then had the same issue. So I did a restore from BEFORE any migration movement time and dates. STILL the same problem of the client not able to see, connect or even ping the server. I changed the IP , I reinstalled the NIC and still no success. I then restored as a active VM, for the 5th time, from a date 2 days before any work to a Linux based DR and backup system we have onsite and STILL no connections or even pings of seeing the SBS server. There are other VMs running on both the 2008 and 2012 hosts with no problems. I reset the entire network hardware environment and nothing can get this SBS 2003 to be visible. I completed a virus scan and there were nothing to report back. I am at a loss. any advise would be appreciated.
