I bought a Partner Silver Pack and I'm trying to activate our on-premises Windows Servers Evaluation versions. All is well in GUI editions but when trying to activate CORE editions I have errors and I am unable to activate Windows Servers. I'm trying following
(this works with GUI editions):
1. Since Eval don't allow VL key to activate it, I'm using Retail (KMS) key and not VL (VL has "The specified product key could not be validated" error 1168 if you try it, and that is expected):
DISM /Online /Set-Edition:ServerStandard /ProductKey:N69G4-B89J2-4G8F4-WWYCC-J464C /AcceptEula
2. After reboot, I inject our VL key (from Partner portal); It is intentionally omitted with "X":
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
3. And finally activate with:
slmgr /ato
To repeat, this WORKS with GUI, but with CORE it fails on first command with following error:
DISM /Online /Set-Edition:ServerStandardCor /ProductKey:N69G4-B89J2-4G8F4-WWYCC-J464C /AcceptEula
Error: 1168
An error occurred while applying target edition component settings. The upgrade cannot proceed.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
